The deadline to add and drop courses was this MONDAY, OCTOBER 15TH. You can still withdraw from courses until MONDAY, OCTOBER 29TH. Withdrawing is identical to dropping, except the course remains on your record with a "WD" notation. - DELAYED UPDATES? If you have filed add/drop forms with the House Office but the changes have not yet appeared on your record, don't panicÑ this is a busy time at 20 Garden St and it may take a little while. Let me know if the changes take more than a week or two and I can help you correct any errors that may have occurred. - BUREAU PEER TUTORING. Feeling a little lost in a class? Consider hiring a peer tutor through the Bureau of Study Counsel. Tutors are paid with a subsidy and the cost is very reasonable. Interested in tutoring other students taking a class that you loved? I will have walk-in office hours this week from 11am-noon on Mon, Tue, Wed, and Fri. For other times, please contact Kit in the House Office (5-2283, lowell@fas) to set up an appointment with me. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASK BETH, the HOUSE ADMINISTRATOR *Beth Terry, A-22, 5-2283 (lo-admin@fas.harvard.edu) Dear Beth: I must REALLY be procrastinating if it's now time to ask you about stuff I've been wondering about since September. I consider myself to be an extremely photophilic individual, and as such, I was thrilled to see that considerate Lowell House provides us with TWO forms of overhead lighting, in addition to the floor lamp that, theoretically, come standard with the room (still waiting for mine, by the way). I was not so thrilled to discover that this little gold can light mounted to the wall in my room, my roommate's room, the bathroom, and evidently, every other room in the whole house does not seem to have a switch anywhere. What is this thing? Where did it come from? Why is it there? And WHY can't I seem to turn it on? Signed, Left in the Dark Dear Left: I'm happy that you might be marginally thrilled with us, even in your procrastination. Regarding theoretical floor lamps: No doubt you have received theoretical replacement lamps since you theoretically reported it to the Building Manager?? (Just asking) As far as the little gold lights, they ARE everywhere, and sadly, they cannot be turned on because they are emergency lighting. In theory, when the grid around here fails, or if some other situation affecting the power evolves, ALL the emergency lights will become activated and (here's the drama of it...) then they cannot be turned OFF. So all your little photophile fantasies will come true! We'll be in some disaster lockdown! We'll have no heat or water but by golly it'll be as bright as the Alaskan solstice. ~Beth PS- Does any student want to work with us in the House Office? Please? Free candy! We need you! Please come on by A22. (I'm starting to beg....) ~B ----------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM THE FELLOWSHIPS TUTORS * Josh Goldman (jdgoldm@fas.harvard.edu) * Courtney Peterson (cmpeters@fas.harvard.edu) LOWELL FELLOWSHIPS MAILING LIST Want to know what fellowships are out there? School time can be tough. Racing around, working toward the next deadline, trying to fit in practice and a little bit of saving the worldÉ Who has time for friends? The radical wellness tip of the week is this: reach out to others. Take a moment to find out how someone else is doing, call a friend out of the blue, give your neighbor a hug. Living in a strong and supportive community actually makes us all work better. More productive! Happier! Amazing! We need to BUILD community. The steps are simple, but it does take some action. So be a friend. You never know Ð next time you are feeling overwhelmed or a little sad, or even next time you are on top of the world, someone connecting with you might be just what you need. So be that friend for someone else now Ð what goes around comes around! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM YOUR PRE-MED ADVISING TUTORS * Benjamin Rapoport (chair), Marlys Fassett, Ilya Leskov and Mary Alexander * lohomed@fas.harvard.edu.
