Please come to me with questions and concerns of any kind--in addition to my advising and administrative roles, I also help Lowell House students manage personal struggles, illness and anything else you may encounter on your way to your degree. - WITHDRAW DEADLINE. The deadline to Add and Drop courses has passed, but you do still have the option to withdraw from a course until Monday, March 16. This will leave the course on your transcript with a WD notation--if you have questions about this option please let me know. - SECONDARY FIELD DEADLINE. Attention Seniors! For those of you hoping to complete a secondary field, deadlines are approaching. In addition to filing your information electronically at www.fas.harvard.edu/secfield, you must print the resulting form, have it signed by your secondary field adviser, and hand it in to 20 Garden St by 5:00 pm on the seventh Monday (March 16). The form must get to the Registrar’s Office that day, not to the House Office. There are no exceptions to this deadline. - BUREAU OF STUDY COUNSEL. The BSC offers a variety of services geared toward a healthy academic and personal life, including counseling services, a reading strategies course, peer tutors, workshops on rooming and blocking, writing, creativity, time management... The services that they provide are diverse and impressive, and a list can be found at their website: http://bsc.harvard.edu. - OFFICE HOURS THIS WEEK. I will have walk-in office hours this week from 11- noon Mon, Tues, Wed, and Fri. For other times, please contact Kit in the House Office (A-22, 5-2283, lowell@fas) to set up an appointment with me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ASK BETH, the HOUSE ADMINISTRATOR * Beth Terry, A-22, 5-2283 (lo-admin@fas.harvard.edu Dear Beth, Why, oh why when I go to visit my supple significant other in G-entryway do I have to pass by those *terrifying* bicycle storage rooms in the basement? They are dark, the doors are always open, and sometimes—I SWEAR--the bicycles hiss at me. Whose idea was this? Does anyone use these bicycles? Can we get rid of them? Or could we close the door so that I don't have to run by late at night holding a pointy stick? I promise I'm usually brave. Signed, Petrified in P Dear Petrified, Hey, maybe we just keep the doors open so they won't mate, okay? Do you want twice the number of unclaimed bikes teeming behind closed doors in the basement?! Ok, seriously -- our basement rooms are handy holding pens for these bits of titanium transport which would otherwise suffer rust and kidnapping in the outside world. Their owners may not use them during the snowy season but that doesn't mean they should be euthanized, does it? (By that logic, you should cease storing your brain unless you are actively using it. An interesting conundrum for the college student....but I digress...) Perhaps, in these dormant winter months, the bikes are coming alive with malevolent jealousy. Perhaps they ARE out to get you. Or maybe they are just hungry for WD40. I can tell you that it probably doesn't help matters that some of them are trapped in the same room as the sump-pump which overflows in wet months. Ah ha! All that ominous gurgling from the sump-pumps digestion is what's really making your hair stand on end when you tiptoe by. Here's the thing: if you want to close the doors, it is all right with us. We will also tell the night guard about it. But it's on your head if we end up with an unexpected springtime litter of orphaned velocipedes. ~Beth ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FROM THE FELLOWSHIPS TUTORS * Josh Goldman (jdgoldm@fas.harvard.edu) * Courtney Peterson (cmpeters@fas.harvard.edu) * Susanna Mierau (susanna_mierau@post.harvard.edu) * website: http://lowell.harvard.edu/fellowships LOWELL FELLOWSHIPS MAILING LIST Want to know what fellowships are out there?
