I’ll hold office hours this week on Monday from 2:00- 3:30 and Tu-Fr 11:00-12:00. Please come on by to ask questions, get advice, give advice, or just to say hi and discuss the important questions of the day, such as “which is the better dessert, pie or cake?” I’m also happy to see you at other times, and if the drop-in hours don’t work, just contact me for an appointment (5-2283, lo-abrd@fas.harvard.edu). - WITHDRAW DEADLINE. The deadline to add and drop courses has passed, but you can still withdraw from courses until MONDAY, OCTOBER 27th. Withdrawing is identical to dropping, except the course remains on your record with a "WD" notation. - DELAYED UPDATES? If you have filed Add/Drop forms with the House Office but the changes have not yet appeared on your record, please follow Douglas Adams’ advice: “Don’t Panic.” Changes may take a week or more to register, and if they take longer let me know and I’ll help correct any mistakes. - PEER TUTORING. With midterms coming up you may feel as if you could use a bit of help in class. * The peer tutors at the Bureau of Study Counsel can help and they are priced very reasonably. For more information, see http://bsc.harvard.edu/tutor.html. For help with papers, you can go to Harvard’s Writing Center, where peer tutors can help you in everything from developing ideas through forming a complex structure—all for free! For appointments and drop in hours please see http://isites.harvard.edu/icb/icb.do?keyword=k33202 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASK BETH, the HOUSE ADMINISTRATOR * Beth Terry, A-22, 5-2283 (lo-admin@fas) Dear Beth: I would like to ask you a question concerning cleaning crew. How often are they supposed to come clean our bathrooms? We've been living at Lowell for almost 4 weeks now and my bathroom sure doesn't look any cleaner. Signed, Former Freshman with Fungus Dear Freshman: Oooh, I'll bet it doesn't! (whatever else, our bathrooms are definitely not self-cleaning.) But here is the lowdown: ideally, the Dorm Crew or a custodian should be cleaning the bathrooms every two weeks. However, there is not a set schedule and they do not pick up after people or move items (as a hotel might). If there are a lot of personal belongings in a bathroom they will do their best to clean around them, but be aware that it can be challenging. They might just choose to walk away. So, if you want to be cleaned, take off that velour-padded toilet seat cover! And ladies, stash those Lancome products perched on your sink. Relocate piles of laundry-in-waiting and languishing towels. Let your bathroom stand naked each week, ready for a cleansing! And hopefully your fungus will become a dim memory for you (and for this column). Thank you. ~Beth ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FROM THE FELLOWSHIPS TUTORS * Susanna Mierau (smierau@fas.harvard.edu) * Josh Goldman (jdgoldm@fas.harvard.edu) * Courtney Peterson (cmpeters@fas.harvard.edu) LOWELL HOUSE FELLOWSHIPS WEBSITE The Fellowships section of the Lowell House website features an annotated list of common fellowships designed to make it easy to find fellowships that will fund whatever it is that you're hoping to do.
