House Officers

The Masters of Lowell House Diana Eck and Dorothy Austin are responsible for the overall well-being of the Lowell House community. They oversee the programs, personnel, and maintenance of the House. Throughout the academic year they host a series of social events. If Lowell House were a small liberal arts college, the Masters would be the co-presidents. Should you wish to make an appointment with the Masters, call 5-2283 or stop by the House Office in A-22.

The Resident Dean, Ryan Spoering, is primarily responsible for the academic progress and personal well-being of the House members. He attends the weekly meetings of the Harvard College Administrative Board as a representative of Lowell students, serves as a link to the Dean of the College, and helps students deal with any problems that may arise. Recommendations and postgraduate plans are handled by the Resident Dean’s office. Please call 5-2283 to set up an appointment.

There are four Assistant Senior Tutor Positions, each of whom has a specific responsibility:

Junior Common Room: R. J. Jenkins

Senior Common Room: Van Tran

House Librarian: Tina Warinner

Fellowships: Josh Goldman

The concerns of the House Administrator, Beth Terry, are the day-to-day operations of the House Office that include a wide assortment of administrative duties. These duties include: support of the Masters and Senior Tutor, student housing, tutor housing, the House budget, guest reservations, and liaison with other administrative branches of Harvard University, such as fiscal services, food services, facilities maintenance, and various dean’s offices.

The first person you are likely to meet in the House Office is Kit Gattis, the House Staff Assistant. He can point you toward the best source of help in our office and elsewhere, and can make an appointment with the Masters, or Resident Dean.

The House Building Manager is Jay Coveney. His office is located under the entrance archway (on your left hand side as you enter the House). The Building Manager oversees the maintenance of the House – including rooms, facilities and emergency situations. He coordinates the work of the custodial staff. Let him know of any problems you are having with the physical state of the rooms or facilities; drop by the office or call 5-2282, or e mail: jcoveney@fas.harvard.edu.
