March 27, 2009: Sprinkler Project Update

Below is the schedule and narrative for the next two weeks. Starting on Monday March 30 th , the installation of sprinkler pipes will be confined to the basement, as work in the stairwells will wrap up this weekend. Also starting next Tuesday the schedule will change to 8am start, with drilling occurring after 10am. This schedule will continue until May 1 st . At that time sprinkler installation will be suspended until after graduation.

Design work will continue next week in the dorm rooms. This work will take place in entries C thru I over the next several weeks. The engineers will be escorted starting at 10am and will need about a half hour per suite. This portion of the work will be the only access into your room required as part of the project and only under escorted supervision.

LOWELL HOUSE - SPRING WORK NARRATIVE

UPDATED 3/26/09:

Friday 3/27/09: The sprinkler subcontractor will continue walking through the basement to layout the penetrations that will be needed in vertical walls. The final stairwell core (for the spring) will be completed in stairwell R (NOTE: Very Noisy Work). We will be installing vertical riser pipes in the stairwells of L and F. The sprinkler subcontractor will be coring holes through walls and installing pipe horizontally between entrances O and L, and the plaster patching subcontractor will begin patching and painting the areas between O and L, and they will be delivering piping for the areas between L and C (basement). The Fire alarm subcontractor will protect the existing smoke detectors in the morning, and to uncover these detectors at the end of the day. Asbestos abatement will continue along the west site of the basement at the entrances to the racquetball courts, access to this portion of the building will be limited.

Saturday 3/28/09: The sprinkler subcontractor will be walking through the basement to layout any penetrations that will be needed in vertical walls. The installation of new sprinkler piping risers will continue in Entry R. The sprinkler subcontractor will be coring holes through walls and installing pipe horizontally between entrances O and L . The Fire alarm subcontractor will protect the existing smoke detectors in the morning, and to uncover these detectors at the end of the day. Asbestos abatement will be completed; access to this portion of the building will be limited until Monday.

Sunday 3/29/09: No Work
