April 17, 2009: Sprinkler Project Update

Below is the schedule and narrative for the next three weeks. The installation of sprinkler pipes will be confined to the basement, as work in the stairwells is complete for the time being and will not resume until June 8th. The schedule will continue to be an 8am start, with drilling occurring after 10am. This schedule will continue until May 1st. At that time sprinkler installation will be suspended until after graduation.

Key points for the next couple of weeks.

  • Pipe installation is now in the last phase, with work in the following basement entries G, H, O, P, Q and R entries. As well as the corridor under the dining hall and Masters Residence. There maybe a few areas that the pipe installation will need to be adjusted, so it is possible to hear drilling outside of the main areas of concentration.
  • Pipe installation will cease on April 30th, Painting will continue into May
  • The water line from Plympton Street is expected to be installed into both Old Quincy and Lowell Houses starting on Monday April 27th and will last about five days. This work will be loud as they core the foundation wall and make the cuts in the street. Hours of operation are expected to be between 8am and 6pm. This schedule may change depending on the city of Cambridge and its final approval for the work.
  • Asbestos abatement will start on Monday April 20th above squash court 5. It is the last area until summer that that will need to be abated. All other areas have been abated earlier in the project or where found to be free of Asbestos. All work related to the Asbestos abatement has been coordinated and directed by EH&S.

If you have any questions always feel free to swing by the office and ask. I truly thank all of you for your cooperation in this project.

Thanks

Bob
